MIXING METALS
Modern layering means mixing metals. And we're all for it.
There are some basic principles we follow: Build your base, Ratios matter and Get creative.
PRINCIPLE 1: BUILD YOUR BASE
To create cohesion throughout your entire look, we recommend selecting a base metal that will be most consistent throughout your jewelry stack. Your base metal will be the hero and be accented by the other metals you choose to incorporate. We recommend building your base around the metal that you gravitate towards.
We lead with 14k yellow gold.
PRINCIPLE 2: RATIOS MATTER
The ratio to which you add in different metals with determine how "mixed" the overall look feels.
We recommend a minimum of a 2:1 ratio, meaning for every two yellow-gold pieces add one white or rose gold piece. Our preference is 4:1, meaning for every 3-4 pieces of yellow gold we add one piece of (usually) white gold.
It can be fun to play with different ratios in different parts of your jewelry stack. For example: we definitely recommend a 2:1 ratio for an earring stack, but more of a 4:1 ration for a bracelet stack.
Two tone pieces are a great way to bypass this principle altogether.
PRINCIPLE 3: GET CREATIVE
This is the most illusive but the most important. While we do have "principles" the biggest thing is to get creative and trust your judgement. Once you have your base, adding in metals is a creative exercise. Experiment and see what feels right for you!
